Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary
The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting opportunity for a Diesel Engine Electronics Technician III position in Seguin, TX. As a technician, you will perform electronic diagnostics, software loading, and ECM flashing to ensure system performance and quality standards are met. This role is responsible for building and repairing engine and rigging harnesses, maintaining fault filters, and investigating rejected electronic components to support root cause analysis and corrective actions. The technician works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement engineering changes, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
What you will do:
- Perform testing and repairs on diesel engines to eliminate quality and material defects
- Perform advanced electronic diagnostics and troubleshooting on diesel engine components and systems
- Load, update, and verify software releases within PSPS to support engine production and testing requirements
- Execute ECM flashing activities for engineering builds, validation, and production support
- Install, configure, and maintain engine software packages, including S045
- Maintain and update fault filters to ensure accurate diagnostics and compliance with quality standards
- Build, repair, and modify rigging harnesses to support testing, production, and engineering changes
- Investigate rejected or failed electronic parts to determine root cause and support reactive containment actions
- Complete Engine Harness ECR (Engineering Change Request) work, including implementation, validation, and documentation
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve electronic and software-related issues
- Identify and document key metrics related to the assigned department or function
- Collaborate with function owners to trouble shoot critical issues
- Understand and interpret engineering prints
- Run/coordinate design of experiments for critical internal issues
- Support Manufacturing Engineering to improve Cpk and Ppk
- Ability to perform root cause corrective actions to improve stop capability
- Report on key metric and improvements
- Submit and assist with the resolution of CPS Continuous Improvement cards
- Follow standard operating procedures and area specific work instructions
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and documentation standards within a diesel engine production environment
- Be self-motivated, work independently when required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
What you will have:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working on electrical components of engines or similar work
- Intermediate experience with tools and equipment used for engine repair such as wrenches, torque tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Intermediate understanding of engine components such as pistons, cooling systems, and an ability to perform basic repairs like oil changes and filter replacements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
- Strong customer service, communication, and multi-tasking skills
- Initiative and ability to resolve issues either individually or through appropriate team guidance
What would make you a top candidate:
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine electronic control systems, modules, and sensors
- Familiarity with PSPS and engine software configurations (including S045 or similar platforms)
- Hands-on experience with ECM flashing and software loading in a production or engineering environment
- Experience with electronic diagnostics tools, test equipment, and fault code analysis
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to perform repetitive operations
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

- 1st Shift: Monday-Thursday, 6:00AM – 4:30PM. Overtime as required.

Summary Pay Range:
$28.85 - $38.10Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
