PAY GROUP: 11. SUMMARY OF POSITION: Multi-task radio/communications work in Police Department on assigned shift. Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire/EMS, Animal Control; dispatches response personnel; operates computer terminals for TCIC/NCIC, CAD, and Emergency Medical Dispatch. Must exercise tact and firmness with distressed callers and independent judgment. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Operates two-way radio; receives/evaluates calls (9-1-1 and non-emergency); informs callers of emergency procedures; notifies other agencies; uses TCIC/NCIC; enters/modifies records; performs records checks; uses critical software; maintains logs/files; provides EMD instructions; monitors building and jail cameras; handles alarms; maintains technical/medical knowledge. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Radio/phone operation; FCC rules; geography; communication system procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, apply dispatch codes, use equipment, work under stress, maintain records, type 35 wpm, operate a computer, maintain certifications. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: High school or equivalent and at least six months related experience (or related training). CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: TCOLE Telecommunications Operator Basic within one year; TCIC/NCIC; EMD and CPR desirable; valid Texas Class C DL and good driving record. Starting Pay: $23.93/hour. Position Will Remain Open Until Filled. AA/EOE.
