Job Description: Operator I – Tree Trimming. PAY GROUP: U4. SUMMARY: Maintains City-owned trees for public safety; plants, prunes, trims, removes and cares for City trees; ensures views of traffic signals/signs/intersections are not blocked; trims trees around energized power lines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Prune/remove trees; brush chipping, root pruning, stump grinding; climb using saddle/rope/harness; operate/maintain trucks, aerial lift truck, chainsaws, pole/root pruners, stump grinder, brush chipper; traffic control; roadside cleanup; plant/water/fertilize/care for trees; respond to emergencies; assist with chipping; inspect trees for faults/insects/diseases; haul brush/wood; use hand/power tools; act as groundsman. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of tree planting/pruning/removal practices; tools/materials/equipment; traffic control. Ability to perform CPR; lift/maneuver up to 112 lbs; perform manual tasks in unfavorable weather; follow instructions; maintain records; work effectively with employees/public/vendors; may handle hazardous materials. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: HS graduation or equivalent; three years landscape/tree maintenance preferred or equivalent. CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Texas Class B (commercial) driver’s license; maintain CPR certification. Starting Salary: $20.66/hour. Position Open Until Filled. AA/EOE.
