What You'll Do

  • Visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, and heel control)
  • To ensure slag foaming is appropriate
  • Adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry
  • Trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc)
  • Work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melt shop equipment (caster, furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
  • Work to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner
  • Responsible for controlling and replenishing the inventory of consumables needed on the operations floor
  • Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
  • Fill in or assist supervisor in the performing of duties when requested and needed
  • Lead pre-shift meeting to include safety topics, stretch exercises and daily plan
  • Assist department in meeting safety, production, and quality goals
  • Communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Must be able to multi-task and follow through with task and direction given as well as give direction to direct reports
  • Perform additional duties as needed

What You'll Need

  • Minimum 5 years of Mill Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years melt shop experience and detailed knowledge of melt shop and casting operations
  • Experience working in a Melt Shop environment with knowledge of different scrap types, fluxes, power/ burner programs, EAF refractory
  • Ability to maneuver through system for WI, JSA, and Technical Documents and create as necessary for review with crews preferred
  • Strong computer skills required (good knowledge of Outlook, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Data entry in SAP/QMOS experience
  • Ability to work with a budget for lowering cost (SAP)
  • Must be able to schedule work through work orders and/or delegation
  • Ability to read roll and guide drawings as necessary
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
  • Proven experience in utilizing math, verbal, mechanical, analytical and planning skills
  • Must be able to work up to a 12 hour shift, which includes overtime, weekends and some holidays
  • Work which may include weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
  • Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication

Your Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required
