PAY RANGE : $35,778.00 - $68,573.00

REPORTS TO: Water Quality Program Supervisor

WORK LOCATION: Seguin, Texas

SUMMARY

As part of the Water Quality department, this individual is responsible for completing water quality monitoring tasks, including sample collection per the water quality monitoring schedule, biological assessments, data entry, and administrative support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WQT I

  • Complete sample collection following the monitoring schedule and assist with stream bio-assessments, following project-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans.
  • Clerical duties such as data entry, reports, invoices, and filing; maintaining and retrieving documents, equipment information, and records; answering phone calls, taking messages, calling project partners and vendors.
  • Assemble, maintain, clean, calibrate, store, and record data for field equipment.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies as described in the GBRA safety manual.
  • Restock water quality sample bottle, calibration reagents, etc., as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of various reports, give presentations, etc.
  • Comply with GBRA policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform other work as assigned.

WQT II

  • All duties and responsibilities of WQT I.
  • Serve as Quality Assurance Officer, manage quality assurance documents.
  • Perform data analysis and help produce technical reports.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

WQT I

  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to interpret and follow written field procedures and SOPs in English as well as plan and perform precise measurements accordingly.
  • Communicate effectively using the telephone and email.
  • Work is performed both indoors (40% of job tasks) and outdoors (60% of job tasks). Fieldwork/outdoor work is required. Normal work hours and occasional evenings.
  • Overnight travel to seminars and operating divisions of GBRA is occasionally required.
  • Must be able to swim.

WQT II

  • All knowledge/skills/abilities of WQT I.
  • Ability to assess current SOPs and identify improvements when needed.
  • Experience in quality assurance/quality control, QA document management.
  • Prior knowledge of Surface Water Quality Monitoring Procedures.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

WQT II

  • Knowledge of aquatic macroinvertebrate and/or nekton identification.
  • Statistical analysis experience, including familiarity with R, SAS, or other statistical packages.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Physical Science.

Valid Texas Driver’s License and ability to remain insurable under GBRA’s vehicle liability policy.

Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

EXPERIENCE

WQT I

At least one year of work experience. Previous water quality field work or some laboratory work is preferred.

WQT II

Three years of relevant work experience.

Possess physical strength to lift 40 pounds overhead; possess hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, depth perception, and color vision to work effectively with sampling and monitoring equipment. Operate a motor vehicle. Communicate effectively with customers, clients, and auditors both orally and in writing. Ability to walk repeatedly up and down creek and river banks typical of the Texas hill country while carrying sampling and/or monitoring equipment. Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. New employees are provided footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees.
